The #1 Social Media Mistake Small Businesses Make

If you have your own business, you know that you can’t just sit down, and plop ideas down and bam, there’s your business!

So in my quest to equip my clients with the best possible knowledge base, my days consist of tons of research. I’ve discovered there is one thing most businesses do that really, TRULY peeves me.

But it’s also the one thing that’s really hurting their business and setting back their social media campaigns tremendously. If you can’t tell, I pay more attention to quality of content, than I do quantity of content. How many articles, tweets and posts do you read that feel like a complete waste of time?

In ’07 the New York Times published an article titled “Anywhere the Eye Can See, It’s Likely To See An Ad”.

Social media is a splendid tool to use to grow your business, but should every post be about your business? Heck no!

That’s the number one mistake I’ve witnessed small businesses make when getting their social media marketing campaigns off the ground.

“We’ve just launched this..”

“Our newest…”

“Come visit our…”

“Don’t you just love our…”

To potential clients it’s the equivalent of you saying ‘Blah, blah blah”.

Turn over a new leaf this spring and ask them about themselves. After all, it helps to get a rough idea of your target demographic.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. “What’s your favorite movie and why” works wonders.
